这座“玉佛”的前世与今生吧

■ 镇寺之宝——玉佛

清朝光绪八年，也就是1882年，浙江普陀山的僧人慧根法师，发心效仿唐代玄奘大师西行之路，前往佛教圣地印度朝圣礼佛。

In the eighth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty, that was 1882,Master Huigen from Mount Putuo in Zhejiang province motivated himself to follow the footstep of Master Xuanzang’s Journey west to India, a Buddhist pilgrimage center for worship.

○慧根上人足迹

温馨提示，横转屏幕，掠影百年

慧根上人孤身一人从浙江普陀山出发，参访各处圣迹并到达印度。回国时途经缅甸开山取玉，请回宝相庄严的大小玉佛五尊。因缘际会之下，两尊玉佛留在了上海，并且建寺供奉玉佛，于是便开启了玉佛禅寺这一百余年的历史。

He set out alone from Mount Putuo, visited the holy sites of Buddhism along the way, and finally arrived in India.During his journey back, Master Huigen passed by Burma and wasdonated with five dignified jade Buddha statues of different sizes. 

By karma coincidence, therewere two statues left in Shanghai and a temple dedicating to them was built accordingly. From then on, Shanghai Jade Buddha Temple started its history of more than one hundred years.

两尊玉佛中的坐佛高195厘米，由整块玉石雕刻而成，为释迦牟尼佛的成道法像，现今供奉于玉佛殿中。

Among the two statues, this seated Buddha statue is 190 centimeters high and carved from a whole piece of Jade ,portraying the enlightenment image of the Shakyamuni Buddha. This statue is enshrined in the Jade Buddha Chamber.

顶上肉髻 眉间白毫

目色绀青 两颊隆满

双耳垂肩 两肩圆满

玉佛佛像的右手覆于右膝，指尖触地以示降伏魔众，名为降魔印，左手结禅定印。无论是谁，来礼拜百年玉佛，都能感受到他的慈悲与宁静。

The Buddha’s right hand rests over the right knee with the fingers touching the ground. This Earth-touching Mudra symbolizes subduing demons. He preforms Meditation Mudra withhis left hand.

Whoever comes to worship the hundred-year-old jade Buddha statue can feel the spirit ofcompassion and serenity.
